Wicked for Good: The Cost of Doing What’s Right

ASSEMBLY OBJECTIVE

This assembly uses clips from “Wicked: For Good” to explore how “being good” may be different from “being seen as good”, and why doing the right thing can sometimes come with a cost. Pupils will reflect on reputation, peer pressure, courage, integrity, and the choices people make when faced with injustice or public opinion. Through considering relevant Bible passages, pupils will explore the Christian belief that God looks beyond outward appearances, seeing what is truly in a person’s heart, and that living with justice, mercy, honesty, and courage matters more than image or reputation.

Hoppers: Knowing Means Belonging

ASSEMBLY OBJECTIVE

This assembly uses clips from “Hoppers” to help pupils explore what it means to belong and why it matters to know people by name. Pupils will be encouraged to reflect on how they can help others feel welcome. Through considering relevant Bible passages, pupils will explore the belief that God knows each person by name and values them.

Hoppers: Why Rules?

ASSEMBLY OBJECTIVE

This assembly uses clips from “Hoppers” to explore why rules exist and why they matter. Pupils will be encouraged to reflect on how rules can feel restrictive but are often necessary, and why different situations may need different rules. They will explore how rules can help keep people safe, create fairness, and enable communities to live well together. Through considering a relevant Bible passage, pupils will explore the Christian belief that good rules are built upon the underlying principle of love.

Dune Part Two

Assembly Objective:

Who is Jesus – a teacher, a swearword, a prophet, a fraud? This assembly invites students to consider what Jesus said about himself when questioned about his identity. Through an encounter with the disciples where Jesus questions them about how he is perceived, and through examining a quote from C.S. Lewis about Jesus’ identity, students will reflect on what they make of Jesus’ claim that he is the Son of God. Continue reading


Wicked: How Do You Respond To Injustice?

Assembly Objective:

How should we respond to situations of injustice? When we are bombarded by news about situations that are unfair we can respond by feeling angry, overwhelmed or apathetic. This assembly invites students to consider a biblical response to injustice. Through the account of Jesus overturning the tables in the temples, students will reflect on justice and righteous anger and consider the response of prayer. Continue reading

Assembly Objective:

What can ordinary people do in the face of suffering? This assembly explores the idea that one individual taking action in response to evil can impact the lives of generations to come. It also invites students to consider the story of the Good Samaritan as a blueprint for a Christian response to the suffering of others. Continue reading


Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Assembly Objective:

Why do we need other people? This assembly examines the idea that human flourishing requires more than the basics of survival and, from a biblical perspective, explores Jesus’ teaching on how love for other people is a demonstration of the church and a sign of good community.  Continue reading

Instant Family

Assembly Objective:

  • What does it feel like to be part of a family? No family is perfect, but part of the purpose of family is to teach us how to negotiate relationships in the wider world. The Bible uses the picture of a family to describe the church, and talks about how believers are adopted into God’s family. This is not a perfect family either, but it’s important for people who follow Jesus to know that they belong because God has chosen to include them.

The Greatest Showman – This Is Me

Assembly Objective:

  • How do we respond to being treated badly by others? This assembly explores how to tackle injustice on a personal and global scale, and presents a biblical response to the question of how we should treat those who are different to us. It encourages students to demonstrate kindness and empathy towards others.
