Through an encounter with the disciples where Jesus questions them about how he is perceived, and through examining a quote from C.S. Wicked: How Do You Respond To Injustice?

Assembly Objective:

How should we respond to situations of injustice? When we are bombarded by news about situations that are unfair we can respond by feeling angry, overwhelmed or apathetic. This assembly invites students to consider a biblical response to injustice. Through the account of Jesus overturning the tables in the temples, students will reflect on justice and righteous anger and consider the response of prayer. Continue reading

What can ordinary people do in the face of suffering? This assembly explores the idea that one individual taking action in response to evil can impact the lives of generations to come. It also invites students to consider the story of the Good Samaritan as a blueprint for a Christian response to the suffering of others. Continue reading

Assembly Objective:

Why do we need other people? This assembly examines the idea that human flourishing requires more than the basics of survival and, from a biblical perspective, explores Jesus’ teaching on how love for other people is a demonstration of the church and a sign of good community.  Continue reading

Instant Family

Assembly Objective:

  • What does it feel like to be part of a family? No family is perfect, but part of the purpose of family is to teach us how to negotiate relationships in the wider world. The Bible uses the picture of a family to describe the church, and talks about how believers are adopted into God’s family. This is not a perfect family either, but it’s important for people who follow Jesus to know that they belong because God has chosen to include them.

It presents a biblical perspective on consumerism and debt, and encourages students to take an ethical approach to what they buy.

Learning from History

Assembly Objective:

  • Are human beings capable of reaching agreement without resorting to conflict? Using a film clip, the assembly examines the importance of good communication in situations of conflict and stress, and explores the Bible’s teaching on conflict and peace. Students will consider whether world peace is ever achievable, and reflect on the individual’s role in contributing to peace.
